Ensembles

The Van Amsterdam Duo, founded in 2004, is a unique combination of accordion (Vincent van Amsterdam) and violin (Jeanine van Amsterdam). This Chamber music ensemble plays an interesting and diverse program and the duo is complemented for their warm sound and their engagement with the audience. In concert, you will definitely be surprised by their colourful sound, timing and excitingly chosen repertoire.

The Van Amsterdam Duo won several competitions in the last decade. In 2005, 2006 and 2009 they won 1st, 2nd, and 1st prize at the National Accordion and Chamber music Competition in Holland. In 2009 they were one of the finalists of the Princess Christina Competition and in 2010 they won 3rd prize at the International Coupe Mondial Competition in Croatia. Last spring they won first prize at the international Akkordeon Wettbewerb Klingenthal. Jeanine and Vincent have played in several festivals and concert halls in The Netherlands and abroad. Jeanine and Vincent performed a lot of concerts together in the Netherlands: e.g. At the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam, the Janine Jansen Festival in Utrecht and at Grachtenfestival/Sail Amsterdam. They also performed concerts abroad, such as a tour in Austria in November 2013.

The repertoire of the Van Amsterdam Duo consists pieces by composers such as J. S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, A. Schnittke, C. Meijering, V. Zubitsky and A. Piazzolla. In 2011 they recorded their first CD ‘’A Flight Beyond The Time’’. The second CD was widely complemented by the press and revolves around Russian music. On ‘’Chanson Russe’’ there are arrangements and original compositions of Stravinsky, Shostakovich and Kusjakov. In 2013 an interesting journey of composition projects started: the composer Bram Kortekaas wrote 'Lente/Festina' for the Duo, and in November 2014 they have played the première of 'Four Landscapes' by Bernard van Beurden, also composed especially for them. Also the première of 'Message to Rodion' took place in 2014, composed by Frank van Gompel.

Astori Amsterdam
